This drwaing represents Eve, the first woman at garden of Eden, when a serpent ( the snake ) seduces her to eat the forbidden fruit, from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which she had been commanded not to do by God. In Genesis 3, a serpent tempts the woman : “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: for God doth known that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil. – Genesis 3:4 – 5 [2] Desiring this wisdom, the woman eats the forbidden fruit and gives some to the man who all eats it. After that, they become aware of their “nakedness” and make fig-leaf clothes and hide themselves whebn God approaches. God curses the man and woman ( and the serpent ) and expels them from ythe garden and thereby from eternal life. As a metaphor, the phrase typically refers to any indulgence or pleasure that is considered illegal or immoral.
