GLO'ART

Willy Gilissen art collection sale

Willy Gilissen’s extensive art collection is being sold. One year after the death of the owner of GLO’ART, his wife Madeleine Adams has decided with pain in her heart to end the international art center. In recent months a solution has been sought to keep the park open to the public but unfortunately there is no successor for Willy. The possibility of continuing on a smaller basis also proved not to be an option. Due to these circumstances, it has been decided to end the continued existence of GLO’ART.

This brings an end to a unique art center in the Lanaken region and even far beyond. Maastricht resident Willy Gilissen realized his big dream in Neerharen. The tireless visionary, perfectionist and patron created an extraordinary project on a more than three-hectare wooded park where artists from all over the world had the opportunity to work on their creations in studios. At the invitation of art lover Gilissen, more than 350 talented men and women eventually came to the institute over a ten-year period. Meanwhile, Willy Gilissen steadily built an art park with walkways and soft music among ponds and waterfalls with atmospheric lighting. The water pavilion at the heart of the park became the vibrant setting for special exhibitions and events where Willy was the shining centerpiece each time, the inspiration behind it all. Willy realized the most incredible ideas. He put all his inexhaustible energy into putting something beautiful here. It is sad that Willy’s health problems prevented him from enjoying his project for a while longer. After all, he experienced so many beautiful moments in this place.

Willy died April 11, 2023 at the age of 84 in the year GLO’ART also celebrated its tenth anniversary. The extensive collection of more than 1,200 paintings, sculptures and photographs will be sold at attractive prices on June 13, 14, 15 and 16. On these dates, the park will be open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Currently, GLO’ART is closed to the public but the park remains family-owned. GLO’ART hopes that all the objects will be given a beautiful destination.
