In the society of spectacles and mass media, where every image of reality has been engineered, we are condemned to live in the reality which has ceased to be that. The meanings of the displayed visual codes are far from the original text. The visual inspiration for my pictures comes from old photographs which I am trying to comprehend with no information whatsoever; I focus merely on their visual manifestation, which I find socially important or interesting. Through rearranging, assembling collages and cleansing photographs which I turn into paintings I am trying to attach new meanings, consciously or subconsciously, imposed upon me. Dealing with human figures while working opens up issues around the identity of the characters shown and the possibility of realising the self by existing in social situations construed in this way.
